Club Information

Welcome to Wellington (Telford) Swimming Club. We are a competitive swimming club based at Wellington Leisure Centre in Telford, Shropshire. The Club takes great pride not only in the standard of teaching and coaching it provides but also on the friendly and approachable atmosphere created by its members and volunteers.

The Club welcomes swimmers from the age of five who are able to swim 25 meters. These youngsters progress through our teaching classes before being encouraged to compete at our own Club Championships and other junior competitions. Our dedicated and experienced teaching and coaching staff routinely produce swimmers who compete at County, District and National Level. The Club currently takes part in the Nuneaton Junior League and Speedo League as well as several other inter-club and open galas. At the other end of the scale, the Club also maintains a strong Masters element that regularly train and compete alongside our younger swimmers.

Most of the Club’s sessions take place at Wellington Leisure Centre and together with our two evening’s sessions at Wrekin College, our swimmers are now able to train five days a week.

The Club is affiliated to the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA), Midland District. The ASA is the national governing body for swimming, diving, water polo, open water & synchronized swimming. It is responsible for establishing the laws for each of these sports, for supporting national teams & organizing competitions throughout England. It also supports 1600 affiliated clubs through a national/regional system.
Information on the ASA & links to other swimming sites are available on http://www.britishswimming.org

A thank you to all who support the Club

I should like to thank our committee members for all their hard work and enthusiasm - the Club could not function without your support and we are always on the lookout for more volunteers! Members of the committee are available on club nights to offer advice and answer any questions that may arise.

Volunteer Help

The club is keen to encourage parents’ participation and is always looking for volunteers to help at club events. Club events require large numbers of helper’s poolside and in support roles to ensure their smooth running. We have a volunteer coordinator who will support new volunteers and full support will be given by the more experienced helpers of the club. The club provides funding for relevant training and a full induction programme for new helpers. The Club can support people aged 16 and over to obtain ASA qualifications which are recognised by the sport and leisure industry and could lead to paid employment. Volunteer work can be a useful addition to a CV.

All of the people who support this club are unpaid volunteers including the teaching and coaching staff so do remember that even a little help from a parent goes a long way.
