Welcome to Wellington (Telford) Swimming Club
We are a competitive swimming club based at Wellington Leisure Centre in Telford, Shropshire. The Club takes great pride not only in the standard of teaching and coaching it provides but also on the friendly and approachable atmosphere created by its members and volunteers.
The Club welcomes swimmers from the age of five who are able to swim 25 meters. These youngsters progress through our teaching classes before being encouraged to compete at our own Club Championships and other junior competitions. Our dedicated and experienced teaching and coaching staff routinely produce swimmers who compete at County, District and National Level. The Club currently takes part in the Nuneaton Diddy and DEVA League as well as several other inter-club and open meet galas. At the other end of the scale, the Club also maintains a strong Masters element that regularly train and compete alongside our younger swimmers, we also have Synchronised Swimming and Water Polo sessions.
Most of the Club’s sessions take place at Wellington Leisure Centre and together with our two evening’s sessions at Wrekin College, our swimmers are now able to train five days a week.
The Club is affiliated to the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA), Midland District.
Information on the ASA & links to other swimming sites are available on http://www.britishswimming.org |

Full details will be posted on the noticeboard and newsletter shortly. |
Well done to all of our swimmers that entered the County Championships this year, there were some exceptional performances and even a few Midland qualifying times achieved. Below is the list down to 6th place, all times are now in the pb database, you can check those in the members area. It was fantastic to see our younger swimmers doing so well.

After long discussion, we are making changes to the sunday session. The session was originally introduced to replace the 1.5 hour session held at Wellington pool in the morning, however, due to low attendance, the session was moved to Wrekin College. For staffing reasons, we are now merging the sessions offered and the session will run from 5-6.30pm. Due to the merging of the sessions, we cannot guarantee a designated lane for the Masters. This change will apply with effect of 9th May.
Masters are invited to use the available slot from 6.30-7.30pm until 6th June (commencement of Synchronised Swimming). For any queries, please speak to Simon Little. Anyone wishing to volunteer to assist our now very stretched coaching team, is more than welcome.
Swimmers are requested to increase their training by making use of the other sessions available on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The club is introducing Synchronised Swimming and the sessions will be run by Zoe Cooper and Sarah Jones who are both fully qualified level 2 Synchronised Swimming Coaches. Both Zoe and Sarah are still actively competing themselves and have won several medals.
The session is available to Wellington Swimming club members only and swimmers will have to pass an assessment in respect of ability prior to being allowed to join the session. Session are running at Wrekin College Pool on Sundays from 6.30 - 7.30pm starting 6th June.
This session is NOT suitable for any swimmer training at Stage 8 and below! The commencement date and full details will follow shortly. |
|
A team list and reservations for the coach leaving Wellington Pool at 3.45pm on 17th April is on the notice board - please confirm attendance and if you require seats on the bus.
The special training organised to enable the team to familiarize themselves with swimming in a team event will cease with end of April. Swimmers should discuss continuation of their training for competitions with Simon Little and Simon Lucas. Ideally, they should now join the coaching training sessions to build up stamina and speed.
Please do not forget to wear your club tops and swimming caps.
For any queries, please contact Simon Lucas or Simon Little, Headcoach. |
