Lottery Grant Awarded
We are delighted to advise you all that we have been awarded a massive £5,238 from Awards for All (Lottery Grants for Local Groups) to be used for training.
This enables us to support our present and future helpers and coaches to fund in respect of additional and further advanced training.
Anne Staples has worked very hard in applying for the funds and we would like to thank her for all her efforts which will bring considerable benefit to us all.
So if any of you would like to take up helping on pool side or even training towards an official swimming teacher qualification, please feel free to approach us.
Please do not think that you cannot have the training because you could only give an hour or so per week, or would only be available once a fortnight or so. Even just an hour assistance is of great help to us - all coaches and helpers are unpaid and give their time voluntarily. Our greatest reward is to see the children progress to the best of their capability.
Summer BBQ
We are holding our Annual Summer BBQ at the Wellington Cricket Club on 7th September. All members are invited, parents, children, grandparents - a fun event for all ages. There will be lots of lovely food, music, drinks, games and much more. An ideal way to wind down after the summer holidays and celebrate the return to school (for us parents ).
Tickets will go on sale shortly at our welcome desk during the main club night - Tuesdays- exact details in due course - keep an eye out, they will go quick.Water Polo
To provide our members with a little more diversity with their swimming skills and to increase stamina and core stability, we are introducing 30 minute Water Polo sessions twice a week as from mid July. These will be held on Thursdays and Sundays during the last ½ hour of the main swimming session. We will keep one lane for those wanting to continue with their lane swimming.
To assure our longstanding members in respect of our standard training - this is an initial trial only. We have expert coaching available and hope that our swimmers will enjoy the sessions - we may even be able to compete long term subject to being able to put a team together . It would certainly make the sessions for some swimmers a little more enjoyable and a break from the routine of swimming up and down - yet still provide equivalent endurance training. Why not give it a try and join the fun.
Top of the Pack
Two of Wellingtons Swimmers Recently won Top Boy / Girl in their age group at the County Championships, which finally got finished early in July.
Free Trial Sessions
We would like to give potential new members the opportunity of “Try before you Buy”. We are offering 4 free trial sessions to experience the quality of our coaching and the friendly club atmosphere. Anyone wishing to join can come along on a Tuesday between 7.30 and 8.30 pm and would then be invited to join appropriate sessions depending on age and ability. An assessment would be carried out to ensure that the new member is placed in the correct session for their ability. We want to make sure our members are happy and do not feel that we are overstretching them. Our members gain great confidence through our tailored coaching sessions and also make friends for life.
Certain conditions apply - for insurance purposes, an application form will need to be completed and therefore a parent or guardian would be required to be present. Once the trial sessions are finished, you may then decide whether you would like to become a member and how many sessions you would like to take part in.
New Club Kit
We have just received the first batch of new club kit items, the hoodies are already a huge hit and look really smart, to follow are new T-bag shirts and shorts for poolside, track suits, drinks bottles, swimming holdalls, swim bags, T-shirts and swim caps. We have tried to make things just a little bit more cool and trendy for you young dudes out there
If you would like to order any items of kit there is an order form and price list here which you can complete and then give to Emily at Wellington pool. The online shop should be available soon.
Members Area
Wellington Swimming Club web site now has a members area, as long as you are a current WSC member you will be given access, the members area means that we can keep secure things like personal bests and we control who gets to see our event photo's. If you would like access please email with your required username and password.
